Sodium formate, also known as sodium methoxide, is an organic acid salt with the chemical formula HCOONa and a relative molecular weight of 68.01. It is a white crystalline powder or granules, slightly hygroscopic. It is readily soluble in water, with an aqueous solution that is weakly alkaline; slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerol; and insoluble in ether. It deliquesces easily in moist air and begins to decompose upon heating to approximately 253°C, producing sodium oxalate and hydrogen gas. Sodium formate is an important chemical raw material and intermediate, widely used in various industrial fields such as leather tanning, chemical synthesis, snow melting and de-icing, oil and gas drilling, feed additives, and printing and dyeing.

1. Neutralization Reaction: In a reaction vessel, high-purity liquid formic acid and a suitable sodium hydroxide solution are neutralized under precise metering and efficient stirring to produce an aqueous sodium formate solution. Temperature and pH are strictly controlled during the reaction to ensure complete reaction.
2. Solution Purification: The completed solution enters the purification process, where activated carbon adsorption decolorizes the solution, removing organic impurities and color. Subsequently, it undergoes precision filtration to remove insoluble mechanical impurities, yielding a clear and transparent sodium formate solution.
3. Evaporation and Concentration: The purified dilute solution enters a multi-effect evaporator system for efficient evaporation and concentration under vacuum conditions, obtaining a supersaturated sodium formate concentrate. This process significantly reduces steam energy consumption.
4. Crystallization and Separation: After cooling and crystallization, the concentrate forms a sodium formate crystal slurry.
