Sodium Nitrite, molecular formula , CAS No.7632-00-0, is an inorganic nitrite salt, white or slight pale yellow crystalline powder, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol. It has strong oxidizing and weak reducing properties, easy to absorb moisture in air, and will slowly oxidize into sodium nitrate when exposed to air for a long time.

Sodium nitrite is the core raw material for steel rust prevention, blackening & passivation treatment. It forms a dense anti-rust oxide film on the surface of carbon steel, iron castings, mechanical parts, effectively prevent metal oxidation and rust during storage and transportation; also used as corrosion inhibitor for circulating cooling water system of steel plants, power plants, slow down pipeline metal corrosion.
4.2 Organic Chemical Synthesis

6. Storage, Transportation & Safety Operation Specification
6.1 Storage Rules
Store in dry, cool, ventilated dedicated oxidizer chemical warehouse, strictly isolated from combustible materials, organic matter, reducing agents, acids, edible raw materials. Must not mix storage with ammonium salt, cyanide, flammable powder to prevent explosion risk; all packaging tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption and deliquescence. Stack height of bags shall not exceed 8 layers, away from heat source and open fire.
6.2 Transportation Rules
Belong to UN1500 Category 5.1 oxidizing dangerous goods, only transport by qualified oxidizer special dangerous goods vehicles & shipping containers. Prohibit mixing with fuel, flour, wood, sulfur, ammonium nitrate during transportation; avoid fierce extrusion, bag breakage, long-term sunlight exposure.
6.3 Operation Safety & First Aid
Operators must wear dust-proof mask, chemical resistant gloves, safety goggles and dust-proof overalls, avoid direct inhalation of crystal dust and skin long-term contact.

• Skin contact: Rinse with plenty of flowing clean water for 10-15 minutes, take off contaminated clothing;

• Eye splash: Flush eyes with running water continuously for more than 15 minutes and seek medical treatment;
